Have you taken cases like mine to trial — and what was the outcome?
Insurance companies know which attorneys actually try cases. A lawyer who never goes to trial gets lower settlements because the insurer knows they will accept anything.
What is your honest assessment of my case — strengths and weaknesses?
A good attorney gives you a real picture, not just what you want to hear. If they say your case is perfect with no weaknesses, be skeptical.
What is my case worth — rough estimate?
They cannot guarantee a number, but an experienced PI attorney can give you a realistic range based on your injuries, liability, and jurisdiction.
How long do you expect my case to take?
Most PI cases settle in 12-18 months. Cases that go to trial can take 3+ years. Know what you are committing to.
How do you communicate with clients — and how quickly do you respond?
Communication is the number one complaint about attorneys. Ask directly how they handle updates, calls, and emails.
Do you charge any upfront fees or costs?
Legitimate PI attorneys work on pure contingency — no upfront fees. Be cautious of any attorney who asks for money before settling your case.
Can I speak with a former client who had a similar case?
A confident attorney with happy clients will say yes. Their response tells you a lot about how they treat clients after the contract is signed.
